Five Region XII players earn All-American honors
Five NJCAA Region XII players have earned NJCAA Division II All-American honors for the 2009 season. Katie Horling, a sophomore middle blocker from Grand Rapids Community College earned First Team All-American Honors. Sophomore liberos Maddie McDonnell of Kalamazoo Valley Community College and Morgan Zumberger of Columbus State Community College each earned Second Team All-American honors. Freshman outside hitter Brittany Moncrieff of Oakland Community College and freshman middle blocker Kelsey Cox of St. Clair County Community College earned Honorable Mention All-American honors.

Columbus State defeats Kalamazoo Valley for seventh place
The Columbus State Community College women's volleyball team won the battle of the Region XII Cougars to claim seventh place at the NJCAA Division II Volleyball Nationals today. Columbus defeated Kalamazoo Valley Community College by the scores of 25-22, 25-21, 25-22 to win the seventh/eighth place match held at the Chula Vista Resort in Wisconsin Dells, WI. Columbus State finishes the season with at 43-10, while Kalamazoo Valley finished at 38-9 for the season.

Both Region XII teams lose today at Nationals
Both Region XII represenatives at the NJCAA Division II Women's Volleyball Nationals dropped their matches today. Columbus State Community College lost to Des Moines (IA) Area Community College by the scores of 25-22, 25-18, 22-25, 25-23, while Kalamazoo Valley Community College lost to Johnson (KS) County Community College, 25-17, 25-19, 25-20. With the losses Columbus State and Kalamazoo Valley will play each other in the seventh place game tomorrow at the 1:00 PM EST. The match will take place at the Chula Vista Resort in Wisconsin Dells, WI.

Kalamazoo Valley beaten by Illinois Central in quarterfinals
The Kalamazoo Valley Community College women's volleyball team lost to Illinois Central College 25-20, 25-14, 25-17 in the quaterfinals of the NJCAA Division II Volleyball Tournament tonight. The Cougars (38-7) fall into the consolation bracket where they can finish no higher than fifth. They will face Johnson (KS) County Community College tomorrow at 3:30 PM at the Chula Vista Resort in Wisconsin Dells, WI.

Columbus State drops close match to Parkland College
The Columbus State Community College women's volleyball team dropped a hard fought match to third seeded Parkland (IL) College tonight at the NJCAA Division II Women's Volleyball National Tournament. The Cougars were up 2-1 after three sets dropping the first set 25-22 before winning sets two and three by scores of 25-20 and 25-22. The Cobras won the fourth set 25-22 before taking the fifth set 15-9. The loss drops the Cougars (42-9) into the consolation bracket to face Des Moines (IA) Area Community College tomorrow at 4:30 EST at the Chula Vista Resort in Wisconsin Dells, WI.

Kalamazoo Valley volleyball team advances at Nationals
The Kalamazoo Valley Community College women's volleyball team dropped the first set but rallied to beat Hagerstown (MD) Community College in five at the NJCAA Division II Volleyball Nationals. The Cougars won the match 23-25, 25-23, 25-23, 22-25, 15-8 over the Hawks. The Cougars will face the Cougars of Illinois Central College tonight at 8:30 PM EST at the Chula Vista Resort in Wisconsin Dells, WI.

Columbus State CC defeats McHenry County is first match
The Columbus State Community College women's volleyball team won their first match at the NJCAA Division II Nationals today by beating McHenry (IL) County College 25-21, 15-25, 25-23, 25-17. The Cougars (42-8) will play Parkland (IL) College at 6:30 PM EST today at the Chula Vista Resort in Wisconsin Dells, WI.

Region XII All-Region Volleyball Team announced
Columbus State Community College placed four players on the All-Region XII Division II Volleyball Team. The Cougars who were number one for six straight weeks placed Morgan Zumberger, Kristen Bergman, Megan Danner and Jackie Randulic on the team. Kalamazoo Valley Community College placed Maddie McDonnell and Cara Greeley on the team, while Kelsey Cox and Taylor Dziewit of St. Clair County Community College are also on the team. Christina Seward and Stephanie Pietrzak of Macomb Community College, Brittany Moncreiff of Oakland Community College, Tiffany Brufladt of Muskegon Community College, Kelsey Hinkle of Jackson Community College, Charlie French of Lansing Community College, Maureen Kurtz of Owens Community College, Kasi Townsend of Vincennes University and Holly Tobias of Edison Community College round out the team.

Kalamazoo Valley and Columbus State ready for nationals
Kalamazoo Valley Community College and Columbus State Community College will kick off their quest for the NJCAA Division II volleyball tournament this weekend in Wisconsin Dells, WI. Columbus State Community College (41-8) will be seeded sixth this weekend and will face the number eleven seed McHenry (IL) County College to kick off the tournament Thursday at 10:00 AM EST. The Cougars won the NJCAA District E Tournament in Grand Rapids, MI on November 6-8 by winning four consective matches over the weekend. They beat Mott Community College on Friday night, Oakland Community College and Owens on Saturday and St. Clair County Community College in the championship on Sunday afternoon. This is the second consecutive trip to the tournament as Columbus finished sixth in last season nationals.
Jackie Randulic and Megan Danner of Columbus State where named to the All-Tournament Team as were Kelsey Cox and Taylor Dziewit of St. Clair County CC, Maureen Kurtz of Owens Community College and Brittany Moncrieff of Oakland CC. Morgan Zumberger of Columbus State CC was the District E Player of the Year and Chuck Weisner of St. Clair County CC was the Coach of the Year.
Kalamazoo Valley Community College is the number eight seed in the tournament and will face the number nine seed Hagerstown (MD) CC on Thursday at 2:00 PM at the Chula Vista Resort. The Cougars (36-6) won three consecutive matches to claim the District F Tournament. They beat Grand Rapids Community College and Edison Community College on Saturday and Jackson Community College in the finals on Sunday. Kalamazoo Valley is making the first trip back to the tournament since 2005. Maddie and Laura McDonnell of Kalamazoo Valley CC where name to the All-Tournament team along with Kelsey Hinkle and Ashley Nugent of Jackson Community College, Holly Tobias of Edison CC and Kayla DeVlieg of Grand Rapids Community College. Katie Horling of Grand Rapids CC was the District F Player of the Year and Chad Worthington of Kalamazoo Valley CC was the District F Coach of the Year.

Columbus State remains number six this week
The Columbus State Community College remained sixth in the final NJCAA Division II women's volleyball poll. The Cougars are 35-7 overall and 11-0 in the OCCAC. They are the OCCAC champions and will be the number one seed in the NJCAA District E volleyball tournament next weekend. Kalamazoo Valley Community College held on to the number eight spot this week. The Cougars, the MCCAA Western Conference Champions are, 31-6 overall and finished 14-0 in the MCCAA Western Conference. Grand Rapids Community College remained 14th in the rankings. The Raiders are 18-7 overall and 10-3 in the MCCAA Western Conference. Region XII also had six teams in the others receiving votes catagory. Edison Community College (18-7 overall, 8-2 OCCAC), Macomb Community College (31-5, 12-2 MCCAA Eastern), Muskegon Community College (22-14, 10-4 MCCAA Western Conference), Oakland Community College (32-10, 10-4 MCCAA Eastern) and St. Clair County Community College (34-10, 13-1 MCCAA Eastern) are the team in that catagory.

Owens CC to host Volley for a Cure on Wednesday
The Owens Community College volleyball program is encouraging area residents to help in supporting Susan G.
Komen for the Cure and the organization’s efforts in the fight against breast cancer by making a donation during the Express’ home match against Lorain County Community College on Wednesday, Oct. 28. The match begins at 6 p.m.
Admission to the home match is $3 per person ($1 for Owens students) with all the proceeds benefiting the Susan G. Komen for the Cure initiative. Additionally, each attendee’s entrance ticket will serve as a raffle ticket for the chance to win the evening’s pink game ball signed by the current Express volleyball team. The match will take place in the College’s Student Health and Activities Center on the Toledo-area Campus. Owens is located on Oregon Road in Perrysburg Township.
In addition to the admission donation, individuals will have the opportunity to participate in various fundraisers throughout the evening, which will be located at several tables inside the Student Health and Activities Center gymnasium entrance. The Express volleyball team will be wearing pink jersey uniforms during the match, as well as hosting a bake sale and a silent auction to win a pink game worn Express volleyball jersey. Breast cancer awareness T-shirts, pins, bracelets, necklaces and wall-of-hope cards will also be available for purchase during the “Volley for the Cure” event. All money raised by the team will go directly to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
The Susan G. Komen for the Cure was established in 1982 by Nancy Brinker to honor the memory of her sister, Susan G. Komen, who died from breast cancer at the age of 36. Today, Komen for the Cure is the world’s largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures. More than $1 billion has been raised to aid the fight against breast cancer in the world.
The Express women’s volleyball program has amassed a 28-16 overall record and currently is in second place in the OCCAC standings. Led by Head Coach Sonny Lewis, their conference record is 7-2.

Columbus States reign at number one comes to an end
After six week run as the number one team in the NJCAA Divsion II Women's volleyball poll, Columbus State Community College dropped five spots this week. The Cougars dropped to number six this week after going 0-5 at the Kishwaukee (IL) College Tournament in Wisconsin Dells, WI. They are now 33-7 overall and 10-0 in the OCCAC. Kalamazoo Valley Community College jumped five spots this week to break into the top ten at number eight. The Cougars are 29-6 overall and 12-0 in the MCCAA Western Conference. They have also locked up the MCCAA Western Conference championship. Grand Rapids Community College held on to the number 14 spot for the second straight week. The Raiders are 15-7 overall and 8-3 in the MCCAA Western Conference. Six Region XII teams are listed in the others receiving votes catagory this week. Edison Community College is 16-7 overall and 6-2 in the OCCAC. Macomb Community College is 26-5 overall and 7-2 in the MCCAA Eastern Conference, while Muskegon Community College is 20-13 overall and 9-13 in the MCCAA Western Conference. Oakland Community College is currently 29-9 overall and 7-3 in the MCCAA Eastern Conference, Owens Community College is 29-15 overall and 8-1 in the OCCAC. St. Clair County Community College is the final team in the others receiving votes catagory with an overall record of 33-10 and a 12-1 MCCAA Eastern Conference record. The Distrcit Tournament are schedule for November 6-8 at Grand Rapids Community College.

The Cougars are 30-2 overall and 7-0 in the OCCAC standings. Macomb Community College is ranked tenth in this week's poll. The Monarchs are 24-5 overall and 5-2 in the MCCAA Eastern Conference. Kalamazoo Valley Community College is 13th again in this weeks rankings. The Cougars are 23-5 overall and 10-0 in the MCCAA Western Conference. Grand Rapids Community College moved up two spots to the 14th spot this week. The Raiders are 14-6 overall and 7-2 in the MCCAA Western Conference. Once again, Region XII has five teams in the others receiving votes catagory. The Cougars are 21-5 overal and 8-0 in the MCCAA Western Conference. Grand Rapids Community College drops four spots this week to number 16 in the poll. Columbus State Zumberger named NJCAA Player of the Week
Columbus State Community College Morgan Zumberger has been named the NJCAA Division II Volleyball Player of the Week. Zumberger, a 5' 3" libero, averaged 4.87 digs per set last week. The sophomore has been a great leader of the number one ranked Cougars. She was named Most Valuable Player of the Kamina Allen Tournament at Genesee (NY) CC Tournament. She had two matches last week with 17 digs against Mott CC and Hagerstown (MD) CC.

Jackson CC raises $1,900 for breast cancer
The breast cancer suvivor match between Jackson Community College and Siena Heights University on September 19th raised $1,900 for American Cancer Society. The scrimmage between the two schools featured a volleyball match, silent auctions on the jerseys and a donation to enter the match. The teams passed out pink volleyballs to the crowd before the match as well. Both teams wore special pink jerseys that were included in the silent auction.

The Cougars (11-1) are ranked number one in this week's NJCAA Division II Women's Volleyball poll. Columbus State finished sixth in last year's national tournament. 17 teams decend on Owens for Express Tournament
Seventeen teams met in Toledo this weekend for a three day NJCAA volleyball extravaganza. Teams from Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Maryland, Michigan and New York showed up over the last two days for a chance to see how the measure up this early in the season. Six of the teams are ranked nationally in the pre-season poll including the number one team in the Nation, Kishwaukee (IL) College. Other ranked squads include, #9 - Parkland (IL) College, #10 - Hagerstown (MD) CC, # 13 - Columbus State Community College, #15 - Genesee (NY) CC, #19 - Kalamazoo Valley Community College and the host school #17 - Owens Community College. Other Region XII schools at the tournament are Sinclair Community College, Lakeland Community College, Edison Community College, St. Clair County Community College, Mott Community College, Oakland Community College, Kellogg Community College, Vincennes University, Macomb Community College, and Jackson Community College. The tournament finishes tomorrow with twelve match begining at 10:00 AM with Owens CC hosting Parkland (IL) College, Kishwaukee (IL) CC playing St. Clair County College and Mott CC playing Genesee (NY) CC.

Four Region XII teams ranked in pre-season volleyball poll
Grand Rapids Community College leds four Region XII teams in the 2009 NJCAA Division II Volleyball Pre-season poll. The Raiders, who are ranked 11th in the poll, finished 31-8 last year and qualified for the NJCAA Division II Volleyball Nationals. Columbus State Community College is ranked 13th in the poll. The Cougars went 38-8 last season and also qualified for the NJCAA Division II Nationals. Owens Community College is ranked 17th in the preseason poll, the Express were 39-15 last season. Kalamazoo Valley Community College is ranked 19th in the preseason poll, the Cougars finished last season with a 31-14 record. Volleyball season kicks of this Friday.

Region XII has four volleyball All-Americans
Four Region XII volleyball players have earned All-American status this year. Grand Rapids Community College sophomore setter Nicole Peter earned First Team All-American honors. Peter average 10.92 assists per game, had a .399 hitting percentage, 1.22 kills per game, 0.67 blocks per game, 1.79 assists per game and 0.22 aces per game while leading the Raiders to the NJCAA Division II National Volleyball Tournament. Lake Michigan College sophomore outside hitter Heather Totzke earned Second Team All-American Honors this season. Totzke hit at a .359 percentage, averaged .27 aces per game, 3.75 digs per game, .28 blocks per game and 4.558 kills per game for the Indians. St. Clair County Community College sophomore liberio Morgan Iloncaie earned Honorable Mention All American Honors this year. Iloncaie averaged 6.76 digs per game and .19 aces per game for the Skippers. Owens Community College sophomore middle blocker Brittney Bradner also earned Honorable Mention All-American honors. Brander hit at a .342 percentage and averaged 1.03 blocks and 2.05 kills per game of the Lady Express.

The Columbus State Community College women's volleyball lost to Cowley (KS) County CC to finish sixth at the NJCAA Division II National Tournament. The Cougars end the season with a record of 38-8. Congratulations to the Cougars on a great season.

Grand Rapids CC and Columbus State CC prepare for Nationals
The 17th ranked Columbus State Community College Cougars (36-6) and the 19th ranked Grand Rapids Community College Raiders (29-6) will start their quest for the NJCAA Divsion II National Championship on Thursday. Columbus State CC seeded ninth will play unranked Central (NE) CC-Columbus at 2:00 PM EST on Thursday, while 14th seeded Grand Rapids CC will play third ranked Johnson (KS) County CC at 10:00 AM EST on Thursday.
Columbus State CC is lead by Jackie Randulic, who has 269 kills, .249 hitting percentage, 76 aces, 366 digs and 47.5 blocks. Lindsay Puthoff has 231 kills, .396 hitting percentage and 96 blocks. Trisha Budrow has 9.782 assists per game for the Cougars.
The Raiders are led by Sami Hausmann 343 kills, .378 hitting percentage, 25 aces, 238 digs and 51 blocks. Nicole Peter has 106 kills, .399 hitting percentage, 19 aces, 156 digs, 58 blocks and 10.92 assist per game.
Columbus State will either play Kishwaukee (IL) College or Brunswick (NC) CC in the next round. Grand Rapids CC will play either Scottsdale (AZ) CC or McHenry (IL) County College.

Owens CC leads four Region XII teams in the rankings this week. The Express (34-13 overall, 8-0 OCCAC) are ranked 14th in this weeks NJCAA Division II Volleyball Poll. Owens CC was ranked 15th last week. Columbus State CC moved up two spots this week. The Cougars (28-5 overall, 7-1 OCCAC) are currently ranked 15th in the poll. Grand Rapids CC held the 16th spot for the third consecutive week. The Raiders are 24-5 overall and won the MCCAA Western Conference with a 14-0 record. Lake Michigan College cracks the top 20 this week. The Indians (39-8, 10-4 MCCAA Western) are 19th in the current rankings. Kalamazoo Valley CC (25-12 overall, 11-3 MCCAA Western) and Vincennes University (30-9) are the only two team from Region XII in the other receiving votes catagory.

Three Volleyball teams still ranked in lastest volleyball poll
Owens CC held on to their 15th place ranking for the second week to lead all Region XII teams. The Express are 32-9 overall and 8-0 in the OCCAC. Grand Rapids CC held on to the 16th place in the poll this week. The Raiders are 22-5 overall and 12-0 in the MCCAA Western and have clinched at least a share of the Western Conference title. Columbus State CC holds on to the 17th place again this week. The Cougars are 25-2 overall and 6-1 in the OCCAC. Several Region XII teams are in the others receiving votes catagory this week. Jackson CC (22-12 overall, 6-6 MCCAA Western); Kalamazoo Valley CC (21-9, 10-2 MCCAA Western); Lake Michigan College (37-8, 8-4 MCCAA Western) and Schoolcraft College (29-6, 14-1 MCCAA Eastern) are the team receiving votes.

Owens leads three Region XII teams in volleyball rankings
Owens CC moved up two spots this week to 15th in the weekly NJCAA Division II Volleyball poll. The Express (29-9 overall, 5-0 OCCAC) is the best of the three Region XII in the rankings. Grand Rapids CC drops 8 spots to 16th this week after a 1-2 weekend at the Cougar Classic this weekend. The Raiders (20-5 overall, 10-0 MCCAA Western) have clinched spots in the MCCAA and NJCAA District F Tournament. Columbus State CC (20-2, 0-0 OCCAC) dropped four spots to 17th this week. Region XII has six teams in the other receiving votes Jackson CC (17-10, 5-5 MCCAA Western), Kalamazoo Valley CC (20-8 overall, 9-1 MCCAA Western), Lake Michigan College (36-7 overall, 7-3 MCCAA Western), Schoolcraft College (23-5 overall, 11-1 MCCAA Eastern), St. Clair County CC (29-10, 10-2 MCCAA Eastern) and Vincennes University (25-7) are all other recieving votes in the current poll.

Four Region XII team ranked in top 20 this week
Grand Rapids CC moved up 4 spots to crack the top 10 for the first time this season. The Raiders (17-3 overall, 8-0 MCCAA Western) are eighth in this weeks rankings. Columbus State CC held steady with week maintaining their number 12 ranking for the second straight week. The Cougars are 19-1 overall. Lake Michigan College held their 16th place ranking again this week. The Indians are 29-5 overall and 5-3 in the MCCAA Western Conference. Owens CC cracked the top 20 this week. The Express (27-9, 3-0 OCCAC) are 17th in this weeks poll. Kalamazoo Valley CC (15-8, 7-1 MCCAA Western) and Vincennes University (22-6) are the only two Region XII team in the others receiving votes catagory.

Region XII has three teams in top 20
Three women's volleyball teams are currently ranked in the NJCAA Division II Volleyball top 20. For the thrid straight week Grand Rapids CC is ranked 11th in the poll. The Raiders are 6-0 in the MCCAA Western Conference and 15-3 overall. Columbus State CC moved up two spots this week to the number 12 spot. The Cougars are 13-0 overall and have not played a conference game as of yet. Owens CC cracks the top 20 for the first time this season with a number 17 ranking. The Express are 24-7 overall and 3-0 in the OCCAC. Three teams are currently others receiving votes, Kalamazoo Valley CC (12-5, 5-1 MCCAA Western), Schoolcraft College (16-5, 8-1 MCCAA Eastern) and Vincennes University (19-4) are all representing Region XII as others receiving votes.

Heather Totzke of Lake Michigan is Volleyball Player of the Week
Lake Michigan College's Heather Totzke (Three Oaks River Valley; Bridgman, Mich.) is the NJCAA Division II Volleyball Player of the Week. The 5'8" outside hitter led her team to an 8-0 record last week. Totzke averaged 5.3 kills per game, 3.6 digs per game and .5 blocks per game. These impressive statistics have helped the Indians to their best start in over 20 years with a 19-2 overall record.

Three Region Teams ranked in the top 20.
Three Region XII teams are ranked in this week's NJCAA Division II Volleyball Rankings. Grand Rapids CC is ranked 11th this again this week with an overall record of 13-3 and a 4-0 record in the MCCAA Western Conference. Kalamazoo Valley CC maintained 12th in the weekly poll with an overall record of 11-2 and a 4-0 record in the MCCAA Western Conference. The two teams meet Thursday in a showdown at Kalamazoo Valley Community College. Columbus State CC stayed at number 14 in the Division II poll this week. The Cougars are 9-0 overall and 0-0 in the OCCAC. Six Region XII schools are in the others receiving votes catagory this week. Jackson CC (11-7, 2-2 MCCAA West); Lake Michigan College (19-3, 3-1 MCCAA West); Owens CC (25-5, 2-0 OCCAC); Schoolcraft College (14-5, 7-1 MCCAA East); St. Clair County CC (13-6, 6-1 MCCAA East) and Vincennes University 13-3 are six of the 11 school recieving votes but not ranked in the National Poll.

Region XII has three ranked teams in Division II Volleyball
The first NJCAA Division II Volleyball poll of the regular season was released today and six Region XII teams are in the poll. Grand Rapids CC leads the way ranked 11th in the poll. The Raiders are currently 8-0 on the season and 3-0 in the MCCAA Western Conference.Kalamazoo Valley CC is the next Region XII team in the rankings. The Cougars are ranked 12th in the current poll and are 9-2 overall and 2-0 in the MCCAA Western Conference. Columbus State CC is ranked 14th in the poll and have 9-0 record overall and have yet to play an OCCAC conference game. Three teams are currently listed as others receiving votes. (9-3 overall, 6-0 MCCAA Eastern) and Vincennes University (13-3) are the three NJCAA Region XII team receiving votes but not in the 20.

Three Region XII Teams ranked in pre-season poll.
Three Region XII teams have earned spots in the NJCAA Division II volleyball preseason poll. Kalamazoo Valley CC is ranked 8th in the poll after posting a 27-21 record in 2007. Owens CC is ranked 13th in the poll. The Lady Express posted a 36-13 record last year. Schoolcraft College rounds out Region XII's represenation in the poll and are ranked 21st. The Ocelots posted a 29-17 record in the 2007 campaign.

Three Region XII volleyball players earn pre-season All-American status
Three Region XII volleyball players have been selected at NJCAA Division II Pre-Season All-American by the NJCAA. Chelsey Stover of Owens CC and Heather Totzke of Lake Michigan College both earned Second Team Pre-Season All-American Honors. Stover a 5-9, outside hitter had 3.2 kills per game and 2.80 digs per game in 2007. Totzke, also a 5-9 outside hitter, had 3.91 kills per game and 4.56 digs per game for the Indians in 2007.
Virgina Butler of Schoolcraft College was tabbed as a Third Team Pre-Season All-American. Butler, a 6-1 outside hitter, posted 3.76 kills per game and .310 aces per game of the Ocelots in 2007.
