Combs wins 100th game at Cincinnati State
Cincinnati State Technical & Community College men's soccer coach Mike Combs won his 100th game as Surge coach with a 1-0 win over Schoolcraft College on Saturday. The win was the first ever over Schoolcraft College in the regular season. Combs, in his seventh season, has current record at Cincinnati is 100-21-5 and is seeking their fifth Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) title in seven seasons. The Surge squad is make up of 21 true freshman and only three sophomores. Cincinnati State is ranked 13th in the nation and is 8-1-1 overall and 3-0 in the OCCAC.

Columbus State Zumberger named NJCAA Player of the Week
The Columbus State Community College Morgan Zumberger has been named the NJCAA Division II Volleyball Player of the Week. Zumberger, a 5' 3" libero, averaged 4.87 digs per set last week. The sophomore has been a great leader of the number one ranked Cougars. She was named Most Valuable Player of the Kamina Allen Tournament at Genesee (NY) CC Tournament. She had two matches last week with 17 digs against Mott CC and Hagerstown (MD) CC.

Columbus State ranked number one for fourth straight week
The Columbus State Community College is the number one team in the NJCAA Division II Volleyball poll for the fourth straight week. The Cougars are 24-2 overall and 3-0 in the OCCAC. Kalamazoo Valley Community College breaks into the poll this week at number ten. The Cougars are 15-4 overall and 5-0 in the MCCAA Western Conference. Grand Rapids Community College dropped two spots in this week's poll to number 12. The Raiders are 10-4 overall and 4-1 MCCAA Western Conference. Edison Community College drops two spot this week to number 18 in the poll. The Chargers are 11-5 overall and 1-0 in the OCCAC. Five Region XII teams are in the others recieving votes catagory. Macomb Community College (19-4 overall, 4-1 MCCAA Eastern Conference), Muskegon Community College (15-10 overall, 5-1 MCCA Western Conference), Owens Community College (17-12 overall, 3-0 OCCAC), St. Clair County Community College (15-9 overall, 5-1 MCCAA Eastern Conference) and Vincennes University (26-6 overall) are the team in that catagory.

Schoolcraft College is in the others receiving votes catagory with a 5-1-1 record and a record of 3-0-0 in the MCCAA.

Lansing CC moves up two spots in this week's cross country poll
Lansing Community College men's cross country team moved up two spots to number five in this week's NJCAA Division I Cross Country Poll. Oakland Community College debuts at number 15 in this week rankings. Jackson Community College also debuts in this week poll. The Jets are ranked 25th in the poll this week.

Lansing CC women's team drops to 11th this week
The Lansing Community College women's cross country team dropped one spot to number 11 in this week's NJCAA Division I Cross Country Poll. Schoolcraft College moves up one spot this week to be tied for 18th. Oakland Community College moves up one spot to 21st in this week's rankings. Cuyahoga Community College drops two spots to number 23, while Jackson Community College breaks into the rankings at number 25 to round out this week's poll.

Jackson CC raises $1,900 for breast cancer
The breast cancer suvivor match between Jackson Community College and Siena Heights University on September 19th raised $1,900 for American Cancer Society. The scrimmage between the two schools featured a volleyball match, silent auctions on the jerseys and a donation to enter the match. The teams passed out pink volleyballs to the crowd before the match as well. Both teams wore special pink jerseys that were included in the silent auction.

Four Region XII women's cross country teams are ranked in this week's NJCAA Division I Women's Cross Country Poll. Lansing Community College is ranked 10th in this week's poll, while Schoolcraft College is 19th in the rankings. Cuyahoga Community College is 21st in this week's poll, while Oakland Community College rounds out the Region XII teams in the poll tied for 22nd.

The Monarchs are 16-3 overall and 3-0 in the MCCAA Eastern Conference. Vincennes University cracked the top 20 this week coming in at number 20. The Trailblazers are 22-2 overall. Five Region XII teams are in the others receiving votes catagory. The Cougars (11-1) are ranked number one in this week's NJCAA Division II Women's Volleyball poll. Columbus State finished sixth in last year's national tournament. 17 teams decend on Owens for Express Tournament
Seventeen teams met in Toledo this weekend for a three day NJCAA volleyball extravaganza. Teams from Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Maryland, Michigan and New York showed up over the last two days for a chance to see how the measure up this early in the season. Six of the teams are ranked nationally in the pre-season poll including the number one team in the Nation, Kishwaukee (IL) College. Other ranked squads include, #9 - Parkland (IL) College, #10 - Hagerstown (MD) CC, # 13 - Columbus State Community College, #15 - Genesee (NY) CC, #19 - Kalamazoo Valley Community College and the host school #17 - Owens Community College. Other Region XII schools at the tournament are Sinclair Community College, Lakeland Community College, Edison Community College, St. Clair County Community College, Mott Community College, Oakland Community College, Kellogg Community College, Vincennes University, Macomb Community College, and Jackson Community College. The tournament finishes tomorrow with twelve match begining at 10:00 AM with Owens CC hosting Parkland (IL) College, Kishwaukee (IL) CC playing St. Clair County College and Mott CC playing Genesee (NY) CC.

Jackson CC to host breast cancer survivors match on Saturday
Jackson Community College women's volleyball will host Siena Heights University on Saturday in a breast cancer survivors match. The match will take place at Victor Ciuss Fieldhouse on the Jackson Community College campus this Saturday, September 19 at 6:30 PM. This is the second year for the event. Last year's event raised $1,200.00 for local breast cancer research and services. The event will feature prizes and games and the player's jerseys will be auctioned off with proceeds goingt to the American Cancer Society. There will be a donation to get in to the match. Jackson Coach Leigh Ann Swihart said, "Breast cancer is on the one cancer that almost everyone can relate. I know the coach very well at Siena Hieghts and so we thought it would be great for our communities. We are so close and compete for the same kids so we thought it would be so fun and something worthwhile in the process."

The Monarchs are 13-3 overall and have yet to play a MCCAA Eastern Conference match. Region XII have five schools listed in the others receiving votes catagory this week. Oakland Community College (16-6 overall, 1-0 MCCAA Eastern Conference), Owens Community College (14-7, 2-0 OCCAC), Schoolcraft College (8-3, 5-0 MCCAA Eastern Conference); St. Clair County Community College (8-6, 2-0 MCCAA Eastern Conference) and Vincennes University (17-2).
