Vincennes University ranked 17th in pre-season poll
Vincennes University (28-6) last season has been ranked 17th in the NJCAA Division I Pre-Season Basketball poll. The Trailblazers open the season on November 3 against Olney CC.

Mott CC earns number 1 ranking in pre-season poll.
It should be no surprise that Mott CC is ranked number 1 in the NJCAA Divsion II Pre-Season poll. The two time defending National Champions went 35-2 last season and return two starters and four players overall this season. Columbus State CC, who lost to Mott in the NJCAA Division II Championship game, is ranked third in the poll. The Cougars (29-7) return three starters and four players overall this season. Lansing CC (25-5) is ranked 10th in the annual pre-season poll, while Sinclair CC (24-6) is tied for 11th in the rankings. Grand Rapids CC (20-9) and Owens CC (20-9) are tied for 22nd in the poll and round out the Region XII teams ranked in the pre-season poll. Kalamazoo Valley CC (21-9) and Cuyahoga CC (20-7) are in the others receiving votes catagory.

Region XII well represented in Pre-Season All-Americans
Region XII had five NJCAA Divsion II Men's Basketball Pre-Season All-Americans. DeAndre Nealy from Mott CC and Mark Anderson from Sinclair CC are First Team Pre-Season. Nealy, 1 6-6, 225 forward averaged 12.4 points, 6.1 rebounds and one assist per game last season. Anderson, a returning All-American, averaged 25.5 points, 9.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 0.5 steals per game last year. Greg Rice from Columbus State CC and Aaron Crump from Kellogg CC was tabbed as a Second Team Pre-Season All-American. Rice averaged 10 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals per game. Crump average 19.5 points, six rebounds, three assists and four steals per game for the Bruins last year. Marquis Mathis from Cincinnati State Technical & CC has been picked as a Pre-Season Third Team All-American. Mathis averaged 17 points, seven rebounds, three assists and one steal per game for the Surge.

Kalamazoo Valley CC leads Region XII teams in pre-season poll
Kalamazoo Valley CC is ranked second in the NJCAA Region XII Division II Women's Basketball Pre-Season poll. The Cougars, 18-11 last season, lead four Region XII teams in the rankings. Mott CC (21-14) are ranked fifth in the pre-season rankings. The Bears finished fourth in the NJCAA Division II Basketball National Tournament last year. Mott has won the District H tournament four consecutive years. Schoolcraft College (28-4) are ranked 10th in the pre-season rankings. Owens CC rounds out the ranked teams in the poll as the Express (23-10) come in at 17th in the poll. Lansing CC (18-13) and Oakland CC (22-8) are among the eight teams in the others receiving votes portion of the poll. In Division I, Vincennes University (19-12) are in the other receiving votes catagory. Region XII has one preseason All-American Tabytha Harvey from Oakland CC is a second team pre-season All-American. The 5-9 forward averaged 15.0 points per game, 5 rebounds per game, 3 assists per game and 2 steals per game for the Raiders.

Owens CC leads four Region XII teams in this weeks rankings

Owens CC leads four Region XII teams in the rankings this week. The Express (34-13 overall, 8-0 OCCAC) are ranked 14th in this weeks NJCAA Division II Volleyball Poll. Owens CC was ranked 15th last week. Columbus State CC moved up two spots this week. The Cougars (28-5 overall, 7-1 OCCAC) are currently ranked 15th in the poll. Grand Rapids CC held the 16th spot for the third consecutive week. The Raiders are 24-5 overall and won the MCCAA Western Conference with a 14-0 record. Lake Michigan College cracks the top 20 this week. The Indians (39-8, 10-4 MCCAA Western) are 19th in the current rankings. Kalamazoo Valley CC (25-12 overall, 11-3 MCCAA Western) and Vincennes University (30-9) are the only two team from Region XII in the other receiving votes catagory.

Schoolcraft College dropped three spots this week to number six in the current NJCAA Division I women's soccer poll. The Ocelots are 7-2-3 overall and 4-2-1 against Division I competition.

Men's Cross Country
Lansing CC leads three Region XII teams in rankings
Lansing CC jumped three spots this week to fifth place in the weekly NJCAA Region XII Division I Men's Cross Country Poll. Oakland CC dropped one spot this week to 20th in the rankings, while Vincennes University cracked the rankings appearing at 21st. The Region XII Cross Country Championship will be held this Saturday, October 25 at Grand Woods Park in Lansing, MI. The race starts at 12:00 noon.

Lansing CC drops one spot this week to 7th in the weekly NJCAA Divsion I Women's Cross County poll. Cuyahoga CC moves up one spot to 14th this week. Macomb CC drops one spot to 20th, while Jackson CC drops one to 21st. Oakland CC rounds out the Region XII teams in the poll at 24th, down one spot from last week. The Region XII women's cross country championship will be held on Saturday, October 25th at Grand Woods Park in Lansing, MI. The races begin at 12:00 noon.

Lakeland's Kwesi Peterson named Men's Soccer Player of the week
Kwesi Peterson
(Belmont Boys; Maloney, Trinidad) scored the winning goal against Cincinnati State Technical & CC over the weekend to clinch the OCCAC title for Lakeland CC. With two minutes left in the game, the central defender scored the go ahead goal in the 2-1 victory. Peterson currently leads his team with 28 points (12 goals, four assists). "Kwesi is frequently playing hurt," says coach Djuro Peric, "but when he is out here, everyone plays better. As long as Kwesi is on the field, we have a chance to win." The strong team leader tallied a goal an assist earlier in the week in a 6-1 victory over Mercyhust NE.

Three Volleyball teams still ranked in lastest volleyball poll
Owens CC held on to their 15th place ranking for the second week to lead all Region XII teams. The Express are 32-9 overall and 8-0 in the OCCAC. Grand Rapids CC held on to the 16th place in the poll this week. The Raiders are 22-5 overall and 12-0 in the MCCAA Western and have clinched at least a share of the Western Conference title. Columbus State CC holds on to the 17th place again this week. The Cougars are 25-2 overall and 6-1 in the OCCAC. Several Region XII teams are in the others receiving votes catagory this week. Jackson CC (22-12 overall, 6-6 MCCAA Western); Kalamazoo Valley CC (21-9, 10-2 MCCAA Western); Lake Michigan College (37-8, 8-4 MCCAA Western) and Schoolcraft College (29-6, 14-1 MCCAA Eastern) are the team receiving votes.

Schoolcraft College tumbles to #3 in this week soccer poll
Schoolcraft College soccer team fell from top spot in the NJCAA Division I Soccer pool, just one week after claiming it for the first time this season. The Ocelots 3-3 tie with Region XII foe Cincinnati State Technical & CC cost them the number one spot. Schoolcraft (6-0-3) have a chance to reclaim the spot with matches against number 5 Polk (FL) CC on Friday and number 1 Darton (GA) College on Saturday.

Lansing CC dropped from sixth to eighth in this week's NJCAA Divsion I Men's Cross Country poll. Oakland CC is the only other Region XII school ranked this week. The Raiders moved up one spot this week to 19.

Lansing CC held on to their sixth place rankings in this week NJCAA Division I Cross Country Poll. The Stars led five Region XII teams that are ranked this week. Cuyahoga CC is up eight spots this week to 15th and Macomb CC is down three spots to 19. Jackson CC dropped one spot to 20, while Oakland CC rounds out the team in the poll, dropping two spots to 21st.

Owens leads three Region XII teams in volleyball rankings
Owens CC moved up two spots this week to 15th in the weekly NJCAA Division II Volleyball poll. The Express (29-9 overall, 5-0 OCCAC) is the best of the three Region XII in the rankings. Grand Rapids CC drops 8 spots to 16th this week after a 1-2 weekend at the Cougar Classic this weekend. The Raiders (20-5 overall, 10-0 MCCAA Western) have clinched spots in the MCCAA and NJCAA District F Tournament. Columbus State CC (20-2, 0-0 OCCAC) dropped four spots to 17th this week. Region XII has six teams in the other receiving votes Jackson CC (17-10, 5-5 MCCAA Western), Kalamazoo Valley CC (20-8 overall, 9-1 MCCAA Western), Lake Michigan College (36-7 overall, 7-3 MCCAA Western), Schoolcraft College (23-5 overall, 11-1 MCCAA Eastern), St. Clair County CC (29-10, 10-2 MCCAA Eastern) and Vincennes University (25-7) are all other recieving votes in the current poll.

Schoolcraft College earns number 1 ranking in this weeks poll
Schoolcraft College women's soccer team has moved up one spot this week to the top spot in the rankings. The Ocelots are 6-0-2 overall and 4-0 against Division I schools were second last week after being third in the previous three polls. They are the first Region XII team in any sport to earn a number one ranking this season.

Lansing CC moved up one spot to sixth in this week NJCAA Division I women's cross country rankings. The Stars are one of five Region XII teams ranked this week. Macomb CC dropped one spot this week to 16th, while Jackson CC drop to 19th after holding the 18th spot last week. Oakland CC moves up one spot to 21, while Cuyahoga CC rounds out the Region XII teams dropping three spots to 23rd.

Grand Rapids second day comeback clinches Regional Title
Grandville, MI -
After trailing Kalamazoo Valley CC 9-5 after the first day's competition, Grand Rapids CC won 7 out of 8 matches to win the NJCAA Region XII Women's Tennis Tournament. Grand Rapids CC finished first with 12 points, just edging Kalamazoo Valley CC who finished 2nd with 11 points. Oakland CC finished thrid with 4 points. With the score tied 11-11-4, it came done to the number two doubles match between Julie Kowinski and Melissa Zuiderveen of Grand Rapids CC and Kelsey Harness and Kesha McConaha-Schultz of Kalamazoo Valley CC. The Grand Rapids team won the match 6-0, 6-3 to seal the victory. Kalamazoo Valley CC had five flight winner, while Grand Rapids CC had the other four. All three teams advance to the the NJCAA Women's Tennis Nationals in May. Full Results can be seen by clicking here.

Region XII Women's Tennis Tournament kicks off tomorrow
The Region XII women's tennis tournament will kick off tomorrow at Grandville High School in Grandville, MI at 10:00 AM. MCCAA Co-Champions Grand Rapids CC and Kalamazoo Valley CC will be joined by Oakland CC in the tournament. The two day round robin tournament is split into six rounds. Singles will be played in the first and second round on Friday. The final round on Friday will be doubles. On Saturday, the final round of singles will be played to be followed by the final two rounds of double will played. Grand Rapids CC moved up 4 spots to crack the top 10 for the first time this season. The Raiders (17-3 overall, 8-0 MCCAA Western) are eighth in this weeks rankings. Columbus State CC held steady with week maintaining their number 12 ranking for the second straight week. The Cougars are 19-1 overall. Lake Michigan College held their 16th place ranking again this week. The Indians are 29-5 overall and 5-3 in the MCCAA Western Conference. Owens CC cracked the top 20 this week. The Express (27-9, 3-0 OCCAC) are 17th in this weeks poll. Kalamazoo Valley CC (15-8, 7-1 MCCAA Western) and Vincennes University (22-6) are the only two Region XII team in the others receiving votes catagory.

Schoolcraft College moved up one spot to second this week with a 7-0-2 record and 4-0 record versus Division I teams. The Ocelots will play the University of Michigan-Dearborn on Saturday.
