Rain washes out first day of District Softball Tournament
The first day of the NJCAA District G and H softball tournaments were washed out by heavy overnight rain which left the fields underwater and unplayable. The Battle Creek area has received over two and a half inches of rain since May 1st. The tournament is now scheduled to start on Friday at 9:00 AM.

Oakland's golf team wins rain shortened Region XII Championship
The Oakland Community College golf team made a huge charge in Monday's second round and it turned out to the the move that won them the Region XII Golf Championship. The Raiders shot a 294 in the second round to move them from a tie for fourth to first place after the first day. That lead held when the second round was cancelled after a yeoman's effort to try to get it in. The golfers went out in a steady rain for the third round and got between eight and ten holes in when they were pulled of the course for unplayable conditions. They went out a second time and got about a hole in before more rain made the course unplayable and cancelled the round. Oakland and Kalamazoo Valley Community College team's qualified for the NJCAA National Tournament in Goodyear, AZ on May 18-21. Josh Proben of Schoolcraft College earned Region Medalist honors with a 144 for the 36 holes. Proben qualified for the National tournament along with, Tommy Thompson, Mott Community College, Alex Fleming, Grand Rapids Community College, Jimmy Joachim, Ancilla College, Dan Balgooyen and Andy Crummell of Muskegon Community College. The All-Region Team is Proben, Joe Lemanski, Oakland Community College, Jacob Rykse, Kalamazoo Valley Community College, Thompson, Fleming, Joachim, John Earley, Kalamazoo Valley Community College, Balgooyen, Jay Dalgarn, Columbus State Community College and Scott Kugler of Kalamazoo Valley Community College.

Cincinnati State T&CC wins Region XII Division III Regional Tournament

The Cincinnati State Technical & Community College golf team won the 2010 NJCAA Division III Region XII golf tournament by one stroke this last weekend. The Surge shot a three round total of 947 beating Vincennes University, who posted a 948 for the three rounds. OCCAC medalist Blake Harpenau lead the Surge with a 231 for the tournament, while Adam Endres shot 232 for the 54 holes. Conner Stookey had a three round total of 241, while Brian Warken shot 243 for the tournament. Vincennes' Zach Manley was the tournament medalist with a three round total of 228. Manley, Harpenau, Endres, Preston Robinette of Lorain County Community College and Stookey were named to the All-Region team. Cincinnati State now moves on to the NJCAA Division III National Tournament at Chautauqua Country Club in Chautauqua, New York on June 7-11, 2010.

Vincennes University claims last Regional spot sweeping Lakeland
The Vincennes University baseball team claimed the last spot in the NJCAA Region XII Baseball Tournament by sweeping Lakeland Community College 7-3 and 11-1 in 5 innings. With the sweep Vincennes wins the Region XII Sub-Region tournament and will be the Southern #1 team in the bracket. They will play Michigan #4 at 10 AM on Friday morning on Morrison Field. The tournament will take place at Bailey Park in Battle Creek, MI on May 14-17. In the first game Patrick Kraft threw a complet game nine hitter striking out five for the complete game win. Jared Broughton went 2-4 with a double and two RBI. In the nightcap, Josh Gieger allowed just four hits and fanned three batters in a five inning complete game win. Jason Cruse went 2-4 with three RBI and two home runs.

District H softball bracket finalized today
The bracket for the NJCAA District H Softball Tournament that will be held May 13-14 at Bailey Park in Battle Creek, MI. The top seed Oakland Community College and second seed Lakeland Community College will get byes into the second round. Delta College will play Macomb Community College, while St. Clair County Community College will play Mott Community College. Both games will be played at 9:00 AM. The Delta/Macomb winner will play Oakland, while Lakeland will play the winner of the St. Clair/Mott winner at 11:00 AM. The winner of double elimination tournament will advance to the NJCAA Region XII

District G Tournament bracket set
The six teams are set for the NJCAA District G Softball tournament to be held at Bailey Park in Battle Creek, MI on May 13-14. The top seed Muskegon Community College and the number two seed Owens Community College will get byes into the second round. Jackson Community College will play Lansing Community College, while Lake Michigan College will play Kalamazoo Valley Community College at 9:00 on Thursday. Muskegon will get the winner of Jackson/Lansing at 11:00 AM, while Owens will get the winner of Lake Michigan/Kalamazoo winner. The winner of the double elimination tournament will advance to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament in Bloomington, IL.

Oakland's Johnson named NJCAA Softball Player of the week
Oakland Community College softball player Haliee Johnson has been named the NJCAA Division II softball player of the week for last week. Johnson was instrumental last week in helping Oakland Community College to a 5-1 record. The freshman hit .681 (15-22) with eight runs, four doubles, one home run, two walks, two stolen bases, and 15 RBI's.
On April 27, in a split doubleheader with Mott Community College, Johnson went 4-for-7 with one run, one double, three RBI's and two walks.
Two days later, against Henry Ford Community College, the freshman outfielder went 6-for-8 with six runs, two doubles, one home run, nine RBI's and two stolen bases.
On April 30, against in a doubleheader Rochester College, Johnson went 5-for-7 with one run, one double, and three RBI's. In game one of this series, she supplied a huge boost for the Raiders by supplying two RBI's in a game that ended with a score of 3-2.
This season, Johnson is hitting .521 with 32 runs, and 42 RBI's.

Pairings set for the Region XII Division II golf tournament 1st round
The pairings were released today for the NJCAA Division II Region XII golf championships on May 10-11 at Bedford Valley Golf Club in Battle Creek, MI. A field of 68 players, representing 15 of the 16 Division II teams in Region XII will team off at 9:00 AM in a reverse shotgun start. The field will play 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday. The top two team and the top six individual players not on those two teams will advanced the NJCAA Division II National Tournament in Goodyear, AZ on May 18-21. The field features the MCCAA champion Grand Rapids Community College and the OCCAC champion Columbus State Community College will be joined by other contenders Owens Community College, Oakland Community College, Kalamazoo Valley Community College and Mott Community College. MCCAA Medalist Josh Proben will be in the field as will OCCAC medalist runner up Jay Dalgran. The top 10 individual golfers will be named All-Region.

Schedule set of NJCAA Region XII Sub-Region this weekend
Vincennes University will host Lakeland Community College this Friday and Saturday to decide the eighth and final spot in the NJCAA Region XII Baseball Tournament. The first game will take place at 12:00 noon on Friday, with the second game 40 minutes after the end of the first game. A third game, if necessary will be played Saturday at 12:00. The winner of the best of three series will join Kellogg Community College, Muskegon Community College, Jackson Community College, Grand Rapids Community College, Kalamazoo Valley Community College, Sinclair Community College and Owens Community College in the tournament. The tournament will be held May 14-17 at Bailey Park in Battle Creek, MI. The winner of the tournament will advance to the NJCAA Division II Baseball National in Enid, OK.
