The Owens Community College baseball team debuts at number 13 in the NJCAA Division II Men's Baseball Poll. The Express are 21-11 overall on the season. Sinclair Community College is in the others receiving votes category this week. The Pride are 14-5 on the young season.

Kalamazoo Valley is number four in first regular season poll
The Kalamazoo Valley Community College women's softball is number four in the first regular season NJCAA Division II Women's Softball Poll. The Cougars are 10-0 on the season. Muskegon Community College is number 13 in this week's rankings. The Jayhawks are 10-9 on the season. Ancilla College (10-6) and Lakeland Community College (9-4-1) are the two teams in the others receiving votes category this week.

Region XII honored with Coach and Asst. Coach of the Year
Macomb Community College women's indoor track coach Kim Renas was named Women's Indoor Track and Field Head Coach of the Year. Tim Marsee of Vincennes University was named Women's Indoor Assistant Coach of the Year. Each of the awards is voted on by their peers. Congratulations to both Kim and Tim.

Mott falls to Lincoln in title game
The Mott Community College men's basketball title run fell just short of a title losing to Lincoln (IL) College 74-67 in the NJCAA Division II National Championship Game. The Bears (33-3) were led by Demetrius Miller with 16 points, three rebounds and two assists. Mike Brigham had 15 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, three blocks and one steal, while Doug Anderson added 14 points, 12 rebounds and two blocks. Lincoln was led by West Dawson with 20 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals. Doug Anderson and Mike Brigham of Mott Community College and Alex Sullivan of Lakeland Community College were named to the All-Tournament team.

Cincinnati beat Kalamazoo in the 7th/8th place game
The Cincinnati State Technical & Community College defeated Kalamazoo Valley Community College 90-81 for seventh place at the NJCAA Division II National Tournament. The Surge (25-11) were led by Shardai Morrison-Fountain with 23 points, while Javonna Saddler scored 19 points and added 10 rebounds. Asia Dillingham added 12 points and five steals, while Kara McLemore had 10 points and eight rebounds. The Cougars (23-9) were led by Kendall Dow with 13 points and four rebounds. Katie Vincke chipped in 13 points and two rebounds, while Kendra Cook added 11 points and five rebounds.
Shardai Morrison-Fountain of Cincinnati was named to the All-Tournament Team and Kalamazoo Valley Community College was awarded the Betty Jo Graber Sportsmanship Award. Congratulations to all three Region XII teams and their players on excellent seasons.

Lakeland finishes eighth at NJCAA Nationals
The Lakeland Community College men's basketball team finished eight at the NJCAA Division II Nationals losing to St. Louis (MO) Community College-Meramec 56-54. The Lakers (24-12) were led by Alex Sullivan with 17 points, four rebounds and two steals. Ray Chambers had 15 points, 10 rebounds and a block, while William Powell added 12 points, four rebounds and two assists. The Majic were led by Toraino Hellems with 15 points, four rebounds and two steals.

Mott CC advanced to title game with win over Triton
The Mott Community College men's basketball team is one win away from the fourth National Championship since 2003. The Bears (33-2) defeated Triton (IL) College (30-6) by a score 71-61. Mott was led by Marshawn Morris with 17 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals, while Demetrius Miller added 13 points, two rebounds, two assists and one steal. Triton was led by Dejan Koster with 11 points, six rebounds, one block and one steal. Mott will face defending National Championships Lincoln (IL) College (27-7) at 8:30 PM Eastern Daylight Time. Mott has won National Titles in 2003, 2007 and 2008, they were runners-up in 2004.

Lakeland wins to advance in consolation bracket
The Lakeland Community College men's basketball team advanced to the 7th/8th place game in the NJCAA Division II Men's Basketball National Tournament with a 84-63 win over Parkland (IL) College. The Lakers (24-11) were led by Ray Chambers with 26 points, 13 rebounds, four blocks one assist and one steal. Alex Sullivan also had 26 points to go with five rebounds, four assists and two steals, while William Powell added 15 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals. Parkland (21-13) was led by D.J. Hoskins with 21 points, three rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal. Lakeland advances to play St. Louis (MO) Community College-Meramec tomorrow at 1:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time.

The Kalamazoo Valley Community College women's basketball team defeated Delta College 63-56 to advance to the 7th/8th place game in the NJCAA Division II Women's Basketball National Tournament. The Cougars (23-8) were led by Katie Vincke with 19 points, 10 rebounds and four steals. Taylor Reed had 11 points, 17 rebounds, two blocks and one steal, while Kendall Dow chipped in 10 points and four rebounds. Delta (24-9) was led by Jessica Duncan who had 27 points, one rebound and one steal, while Ashley Root had 11 points, three rebounds, two assists, two blocks and three steals. Kalamazoo Valley will play Cincinnati State Technical & Community College at 1:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time tomorrow in the 7th/8th place game.

The Surge (24-11) was led by Kara McLemore with 22 points, six rebounds, one assists, one block and three steals, while Taylor Frazier added 16 points, nine rebounds, two assists, one block and three steals. Shardai Morrison-Fountain had 13 points, four assists, one steals and one rebounds, while Javonna Saddler added 12 points, four rebounds, one assists and five steals. Kankakee (31-3) was led by Brittany Matthews with 25 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals. Cincinnati will play Kalamazoo Valley Community College for in the 7th/8th place game tomorrow at 1:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time.

Vincennes season ends with loss to Grayson
The Vincennes University women's basketball team season came to an end at the NJCAA Division I Women's Basketball National Tournament with a 83-57 loss to Grayson (TX) County College. The Trailblazers (28-4) were led by Charae Richardson with 23 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals. Jasmine McGhee had 11 points, 14 rebounds and one steal, while Skylarr Shurn had 11 points, two rebounds and one steal. Grayson (29-4) was led by Angelina Dennison with 21 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Kalamazoo Valley season ends on shot in final seconds
The Kalamazoo Valley Community College men's basketball team lost on a three pointer with just second left to give Parkland (IL) College a 67-66 win at the NJCAA Division II National Men's Basketball Tournament. After the Cougars (24-10) missed two free throws, Parkland came down and hit a clutch 3 pointer with less then four seconds on the clock. Kalamazoo Valley was led by Ken Gordon with 16 points, four rebounds, three steals and two assists, while Mike Vander Ploeg had 11 points, six rebounds, four assists and one steal. The Cobras (22-12) were led by D.J. Hoskins with 16 points. With the loss the coaching career of longtime Kalamazoo Valley coach Dick Shilts comes to an end. Shilts recorded 700 wins in his career and this was his first trip to the NJCAA Nationals. Region XII wish Coach Shilts the best in the coming years.

The Delta College women's basketball team defeated St. Louis (MO) Community College-Meramec in the NJCAA Division II Women's Basketball Tournament consolation bracket, 58-54. Pioneers (24-8) were led by Jessica Duncan with 13 points, three rebounds, two assists and one steal. Kayla Doshier added 12 points, three steals, two rebounds and two assists, while Ashley Root chipped in 12 points, five rebounds, two steals and one assist. Grace Baumgartner had 10 points, four rebounds and four steals. The Majic (25-6) were led by Lametria Jackson with 11 points. Delta advances to play Kalamazoo Valley Community College tomorrow at 2:00 PM EDT in the consolation bracket semi-final. Region XII had three of the four teams in the consolation bracket final.

Cincinnati State wins behind Morrison-Fountain's 35 points
The Cincinnati State Technical & Community College women's basketball team used a late surge to defeat North Platte (NE) Community College 93-80 in the consolation bracket of the NJCAA Division II Women's Basketball National Tournament. The Surge (23-11) dominated the last two minutes of the game to seal the victory. They were led by Shardai Morrison-Fountain with 35 points, four rebounds, two assists and six steals. Brittany Latimer added 22 points, nine rebounds and two steals, while Kara McLemore added 11 points, nine rebounds, three assists, two blocks and five steals. Tyeisha Mitchell added 11 points, six rebounds, one assist, one block and two steals. North Platte was led by Ivy Kuroki with 23 points, five assists, four rebounds and three steals. Cincinnati advances to play Kankakee (IL) Community College (31-2) tomorrow at 12:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time.

With the game tied a 52, Justice Payne of Northern Oklahoma hit a three pointer with 3 seconds left to seal the win for the Jets (30-5). Vincennes (28-3) was led by Charae Richardson with 16 points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals. Jasmine McGhee added 12 points, nine rebounds, two steals and one assist, while Brandi Richardson added 11 points and four rebounds. The Jets were led by Deeva Vaughn with 16 points, 17 rebounds and three assist. Vincennes will face Grayson (TX) County College (28-4) on Thursday at 5:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time.

The Bears (32-2) were led by Danville, IL natvie Mike Brigham who had 18 points, 14 rebounds, three steals and two block in his hometown. Doug Anderson added, 13 points, nine rebounds, one block and a steal, while Sam Burton chipped in 13 points, one assist and one steal. Phoenix (25-9) was led by Isaiah Strong with 21 points, two rebounds, one assist and one steal. Mott will play Triton (IL) College (30-5) in the semi-finals Friday at 7:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time.

The Pioneers (23-8) were led by Jessica Duncan with 22 points including five three pointers. Courtney Neiderquill added 10 points and six rebounds for Delta. Mika Rodewald led Iowa Central (29-4) 22 points and 11 rebounds. Vincennes McGhee named State Farm/WBCA Player of the Year
Vincennes Univeristy sophomore forward Jasmine McGhee has been named the 2011 State Farm/WBCA Junior College/Community College Player of the Year. McGhee lead the Lady Trailblazers in scoring with 16.8 points per game and rebounding with 9.6 boards per game. She has verbally committed to play at Indiana University next season. She will be formally at the WBCA Awards Show on Monday, April 4 in Indianapolis, IN.

The Cougars (21-8) was led by Jessica Eckler with 15 points, while Kendall Dow scored 12 points. Kendra Cook chipped in eight points and five rebounds. The Mott Community College men's basketball team advanced to the second round at the NJCAA Division II Men's Basketball Nationals with a 86-52 win over Central (NE) Community College. The Bears (31-2) advance to play Phoenix (AZ) College (25-8) tomorrow at 7:00 Eastern Daylight time. Phoenix defeated St. Louis (MO) Community College-Meramec 74-66 in overtime. Mott was led by Mike Brigham with 20 points, 14 rebounds, five assists, four blocks and two steals. Doug Anderson added 17 points, while Demetruis Miller had 15 points. Walter Davis chipped in 11 points and TJ Cameron added 10 points.

Muskegon closer Satterlee named NJCAA Pitcher of the Week
Muskegon Community College sophomore closer Cotton Satterlee has been named NJCAA Division II Baseball Pitcher of the Week. Satterlee closed six games last week picking up six saves. He came on in the late innings for five straight games to secure Jayhawk wins. He struck out 15 batters in 5.2 innings, allowing just two hits, no earned runs and walked just one batter. Congratulations to Cotton on the award.

Region XII national qualifiers revealed
The three Region XII men's basketball qualifiers to the NJCAA Division II Men's Basketball Tournament now know who they will play in the first round of the NJCAA Tournament. Number one ranked Mott Community College (30-2) will open the Tournament against Central (NE) Community College (16-17) on Tuesday, March 15th at 10 AM Eastern Daylight Time. Lakeland Community College (23-10) will close the first day of the tournament by facing Lincoln (IL) College (24-7) at 9:30 PM Eastern Daylight Time. Kalamazoo Valley Community College (24-8) will have to wait until Wednesday, March 16th for their first game, which will be against Louisburg (NC) College (31-1) at 2:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time. All games will be played at Danville (IL) Area Community College in Danville, IL.

Region XII National qualifiers now know who they will play
The three Region XII women's basketball teams that qualified for the NJCAA Division II National Championship last Saturday now know who they will face in the opening round next week. Cincinnati State Techncial & Community College (22-10) will be the first Region XII team in action when they face Patrick Henry (VA) Community College (23-3) on Tuesday, March 15 at 2:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time. Kalamazoo Valley Community College (21-7) will close out Tuesday's action with a game against Harcum (PA) College at 9:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time. Delta College will have to wait until Wednesday for their first National Tournament game. The Pioneers (22-7) will play Iowa Central Community College (28-4) at 12:00 noon Eastern Daylight Time. All action will take place at Illinois Central College in East Peoria, IL.

Vincennes University qualifies for National Tournament
The Vincennes University women's basketball team routed ASA (NY) 80-40 in the District C championship held in New York, NY. The number two ranked Trailblazers (27-2) now advance to the NJCAA Division I Women's Basketball National Championship in Salina, KS on March 15-19, 2011. They were led by freshman Brandi Richardson's 19 points, including 4 of 7 shooting from the arc. Other contributing were, DeAnna Thompson with 18 points, Jasmine McGhee with 14 points and 13 rebounds and Charae Richardson with eight points, seven rebounds, nine assist and three steals. Vincennes opponent will be announced Thursday afternoon.

Kalamazoo Valley advances to Nationals, Shilts wins 700th game
The Kalamazoo Valley Community College men's basketball team defeated Lansing Community College 88-59 in the NJCAA District 8 Men's Basketball Championship at the LifePlex in Plymouth, IN today. With the win the Cougars (24-8) advance to the NJCAA Division II National Championship, March 15-19 at Danville (IL) Area Community College in Danville, IL. Ken Gordon led the Cougars wih 23 points, while Garner Small added 17 points and 11 rebounds. The Stars (14-15) were led by Nate Duhon with 16 points and Colin Ward with 13 points. Small and Duhon both made the All-Tournament team. Others on the all-tournament team were: Mike Martin, Lansing CC, Mike VanderPloeg, Kalamazoo Valley CC, James Johnson, Jackson Community College and Austin Harper, Glen Oaks Community College. Nick Ruffin of Kalamazoo Valley CC was named the tournaments Most Valuable Player and Dick Shilts was the District 8 Coach of the Year. The win was Shilts' 700th of his career.

The last time Mott Community College men's basketball team went to Danville, IL was 2008 and they came home with the National title. Well, the number one ranked Bears (30-2) are heading back the NJCAA Division II National Tournament with a 76-57 win over Delta College, in the championship game of the NJCAA District 9 Tournament. Mott was lead by tournament MVP Mike Brigham, who had 17 points, 16 rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block. Demetruis Miller had 13 points and five rebounds. Delta College (16-16) was lead by Winthrop Thomas with 14 points and seven rebounds. Members of the All-Tournament team were: Troy Villolovos, St. Clair County Community College, Jamie Stewart, Henry Ford Community College, Jody Hill, Delta College, Marshawn Norris, Mott CC and Doug Anderson, Mott CC. Steve Schmidt of Mott was named the NJCAA District 9 coach of the year.

Lakeland Community College was the fifth seeded team in the NJCAA District 10 Men's Basketball Tournament but three upset wins later the Lakers (23-10) are off to the NJCAA Division II Nationals. Lakeland defeated Cincinnati State Technical & Community College (23-10) by the score of 89-77 to advance to Danville, IL.

Kalamazoo Valley returns to Nationals for six time in 12 years
The Kalamazoo Valley Community College women's basketball team won the NJCAA District G Tournament today by defeating Jackson Community College 121-96. The Cougars (21-7) were lead by tournament MVP Kendall Dow, who had 23 points. Katie Vincke, who made the All-Tournament Team, chipped in 23 points. Jennifer Lofts, who also made the All-Tournament Team added 17 points and 12 rebounds. Jackson (19-12) was led by All-Tournament team selections Erika Bullock with 17 points and Nicki Wurster with 13 points. Iesha Ellis of Muskegon Community College was the last member of the All-Tournament Team and Cougars coach Ron Welch was the NJCAA District G Coach of the Year. This will be the Cougars six appearance in the National Tournament since 2001.

Delta College punches first ever ticket to Nationals
The Delta College women's basketball team is going to the NJCAA Division II Nationals for the first time after defeating #5 - Schoolcraft College 49-42 in the championship game for the NJCAA District H Tournament. The Pioneers (23-7) were led by Tournament MVP Kayla Doshier with 16 points, 11 rebounds and four steals, Jessica Duncan chipped in 12 points. Schoolcraft (28-4) was led by All-Tourmanent Team selection Kimberly Bee with 8 points and 20 rebounds, while Charlise Slater had 14 points. Other All-Tournament Team members were: Chaniese Turner of St. Clair County Community College, Amber Kingsley of Oakland Community College, Diamond Tolliver, Schoolcraft College and Grace Baumgartner of Delta College. Kelly Miller of the Pioneers was name NJCAA District H Coach of the Year.

Cincinnati State head to first Division II National Tournament
The Cincinnati State Technical & Community College women's basketball team used a 12-5 run in the last 2:33 to clinch the NJCAA District I Championship and a trip to the NJCAA Division II Nationals. The Surge (22-10) defeated Owens Community College 75-71 for the first ever trip to the Division II nationals. Cincinnati was led by Javonna Sadler with 17 points, 10 rebounds and six steals, while Brittany Latimer added 16 points and 14 rebounds. Owens was led by Aja Hall with 23 points, 17 rebounds and three steals. Surge Coach Theresa Check was named the NJCAA District I Coach of the Year.

Macomb relay team national champions, has two All-Americans
The Macomb Community College has won the NJCAA Championship in the Distance Medley Relay at the NJCAA Indoor Track and Field Nationals. The team of Paige Hoag, Ciara Poppe, Louisa Coppola and Kayla Pfund finished first with a time of 12:41.63.
Pfund earnd All-American honors in the 3,000 meters place 2nd with a time of 10:29.53 and Hoag earned All-American honors in the same race, finishing fourth with a time of 10:32.68. Congratulation to these athletes on their accomplishments.
