Former Lake Michigan pitcher Below makes major league debut
Former Lake Michigan College standout pitcher Duane Below made his major league debut last night for the Detroit Tigers as they lost to the Oakland A's, 7-5. Below pitched five full inning and to one batter in the sixth inning.  That batter was Hideki Matusi, who hit a home run that ended Below's night.
Below threw 77 pitches in the five plus innings, allowing five hits, three runs, one of which was earned.  He also walked one and struck out two batters.  He did not receive a decision in the game.
Below was called up form the Tigers AAA afiliate, the Toledo Mud Hens, where he was 9-4 with a 3.13 earned run average in 18 games.  He allowed 99 hits, 42 runs, 40 earned.  He walked 37, while striking out 83 in 115 innings of work.  Below is the latest Tiger pitcher to try and win the number five starting slot in their rotation.
