Women's Softball
Region XII has two teams in top 10 of Softball pre-season poll
Lansing Community College and Oakland Community College are ranked in the top 10 of the NJCAA Division II Women's Softball Poll. Lansing Community College is ranked fifth in the poll. The Stars were 55-5 last season and qualified for the NJCAA Division II National Tournament last year. Oakland Community College is ranked seventh in the poll. The Raiders were 30-22 last season and qualified for the NJCAA Division II National Tournament last season.

Region XII has several pre-season Softball All-Americans
Six Region XII softball players have been named Pre-Season NJCAA Division II Softball All-Amercians. Pitcher Brianna Carpenter of Lansing Community College is only Region XII player to earn First Team honors.
Catcher Tiffany Cupp of Lansing Community College, infielder Heidi Holmes of Muskegon Comunity College and Outfielder Danielle Hahn of Owens Community College were named to the Second Team. Pitcher Melina Johnson of Owens Community College and Utility player Marti James of Mott Community College were named to the Third Team.

Grand Rapids Community College is ranked in Pre-Season Poll
Grand Rapids Community College baseball team is ranked 13th in the NJCAA Division II Pre-Season Baseball Poll. The Raiders were 29-24 last year and qualified for NJCAA Division II Baseball National Tournament. Three other teams are listed in the others recieving votes category. Jacskon Community College (27-22), Kalamazoo Valley Community College (33-18) and Kellogg Community College (27-18) are all in the others receiving votes category.

Two Region XII players earn Pre-Season All-American Honors
Utility player Nate Bryan of Ancilla College was named to the NJCAA Division II Baseball Pre-Season All-American Second Team. Outfielder Paul Young of Grand Rapids Community College was named to the Third Team.

Schoolcraft College jumps three spots to number two this week
The Schoolcraft College Women's Basketball team jumped three spots to number two in this week NJCAA Division II Women's Basketball Poll. The Ocelots are 17-2 overall and 10-0 in the MCCAA Eastern Conference. Cincinnati State Technical & Community College held on to the number four spot of the fifth straight week. The Surge are 14-3 overall and 3-0 in the OCCAC. Kalamazoo Valley Community College jumped two spots this week to number 13. The Cougars are 14-3 overall and 8-1 in the MCCAA Western Conference. Eight Region XII teams are listed in the others receiving votes. Delta College (10-6, 8-2 MCCAA Eastern), Edison Community College (14-2, 2-1 OCCAC), Grand Rapids Community College (14-4, 7-2 MCCAA Western ), Kirtland Community College (12-7, 6-4 MCCAA Eastern), Muskegon Community College (12-8, 5-4 MCCAA Western), Owens Community College (11-6, 2-1 OCCAC), Sinclair Community College (9-6, 2-1 OCCAC) and St. Clair County Community College (14-6, 8-2 MCCAA Eastern) are the team listed in the others receiving votes.

Mott CC and Columbus State CC hold their rankings
The Mott Community College Bears held on to their number three ranking for the second staight week. The Bears are 18-3 overall and 9-0 in the MCCAA Eastern Conference. Mott CC are the two time defending National Champions. Columbus State Community College held on to the number six ranking for the fifth straight week. The Cougars are 16-1 overall and 3-0 in the OCCAC. Sinclair Community College moved up two spots this week to number 13 this week. The Tartan Pride 14-3 overall and 3-0 in the OCCAC. The only Region XII team in the other receiving votes is Oakland Community College. The Raiders are 17-5 overall and 9-1 in the MCCAA Eastern Conference. The Raiders and the Bears will face each other Wednesday at the Highland Lakes Campus of Oakland Community College at 7:30.esday, January 21

Columbus State Community College held on to the number six ranking for the fourth straight week. The Cougars are 14-1 overall and 1-0 in the OCCAC. Sinclair Community College broke into the poll this week in the number 15 spot. The Tartan Pride are 12-3 overall and 1-0 in the OCCAC.

Cincinnati State T&CC holds number four ranking again
The Cincinnati State Technical & Community College women's basketball team held on to the number four ranking in the NJCAA Division II Women's Basketball Poll. The Surge are 13-3 overall and 2-0 in the OCCAC. Schoolcraft College held on to the number five ranking for the third straight week. The Ocelots are 16-2 overall and 9-0 in the MCCAA Eastern Conference. Kalamazoo Valley Community College dropped one spot this week to number 15. The Cougars are 13-3 overall and 7-1 in the MCCAA Western Conference. Owens Community College broke in the top 20 at number 17. The Express are 11-6 overall and 1-0 in the OCCAC. Muskegon Community College dropped one spot to 18th this week. The Jayhawks are 11-7 overall and 4-3 in the MCCAA Western Conference. Ancilla College is the only Region XII College in the others receiving votes category. The Chargers are 11-7 overall and 4-3 in the MCCAA Western Conference.

Schoolcraft College's Brittany Collins National Player of the Week
Brittany Collins (Detroit Renaissance; Detroit, Mich.) of Schoolcraft College broke the school record for assists last week.  In a 110-64 win over Mott, Collins recorded 13 assists to tie her schools' record, followed by 14 assists in a 96-33 win over Kirtland to break the record.  Last week, the point guard averaged 10.7 points, 6.3 rebounds and 10.7 assists per game.
Standing at only 5'4",  Collins has helped Schoolcraft to a No. 5 ranking in the nation and the No. 2 offensive in Division II Women's Basketball.
Collins set three NJCAA record on her way to being named the NJCAA Division II Women's Basketball Player of the Week.

Kalamazoo Valley CC Coach Dick Shilts gets 600th win
Veteran NJCAA and Kalamazoo Valley Community College head men's basketball Dick Shilts reached yet another milestone in his great career. In a 73-69 win over Lansing Community College on January 3, Shilts reached the milestone of 600 career victories at KVCC.
Shilts is now one of just 13 active NJCAA men's basketball coaches to record 600 career victories.
Shilts is a native of New Paris, Ohio, and was a successful basketball player at Wittenberg University. He began his coaching career in 1965 at Wadsworth High School. He then served as a graduate assistant at Akron before becoming an assistant at Western Michigan in 1975. In April of 1976 Shilts was promoted to head coach at Western Michigan.
Shilts was replaced in 1979 and he then accepted the challenge of being Athletic Director, Basketball Coach, and Golf Coach at nearby Kalamazoo Valley Community College.
In 29 years his teams have won over 67 percent of their games, including 63 percent of their conference matches. He has led KVCC to eight conference titles and three MCCAA titles.

Mott Community College men's basketball team moved up one spot to number four in the current NJCAA Division II men's basketball poll. The Bears are 14-3 overall and 5-0 in the MCCAA Eastern Conference. Columbus State Community College held steady at the number six spot for the third straight week. The Cougars are 13-1 overall. Glen Oaks Community College breaks into the poll for the third time this season at the number twelve spot. The Vikings are 13-3 overall and 3-0 in the MCCAA Western Conference. Sinclair Community College is the only Region XII team in the other receiving votes catagory. The Tartan Pride are 11-3 overall.
